Historic Scotland B-listed Mill
Locherlour Mill is a wonderful Historic Scotland B-listed property which is majestically set on an elevated position on the edge of Ochtertyre estate just outside Crieff on the Comrie Road.
Locherlour Mill is due to open in March 2009, after being restored and converted into an Exclusive Use Venue, where guests can choose from a self-catering holiday or a fully catered holiday. There is a wonderful mix of old and modern within the Mill, where all rooms have been decorated and furnished to the highest standards, to create a a totally unique atmosphere. A year long project such as the renovation of a Listed Building, like the Mill, is a daunting challenged for any building firm.
We started work in April 08 and currently on schedule to complete on time (March 09) and under budget. Below is a list of some of the challenges which we have overcome and new skills which we have acquired in the past year:
- Renovation of a Listed building, following the strict guidelines of Historic Scotland
- Installation of Geothermal heating system — we laid over a mile of underground pipes to provide all the under-floor heating and hot water for the Mill
- Harnessing the energy from the water lade that flows through the Mill, to produce electricity for the Mill
- Large scale project — 9 bedrooms & 9 bathrooms, 4 reception rooms, a cinema room, and working Mill wheel!!
- Complete new roof on the Mill, as well as new first floor
- Traditional re-pointing of Lime Mortar to ensure that the integrity & exterior look of the Mill was retained
